PROFILE

“One should always be a little improbable.” Oscar Wilde

He is a celebrated design thinker and inspirational TEDx speaker who studied journalism at Rhodes University, exhibition design and museum studies in Sweden and the performance dance known as Ankoku Butoh in Japan. Orlando consults to both public and private sector clients. His work can be experienced in major public exhibitions like Constitution Hill, Lilies Leaf farm and IZIKO museums of Cape Town as well as a host of self-initiated and internationally funded cultural projects including the visitor experience – wayfinding design of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital..

Within the commercial space he has created and implemented successful branded experiences and positioning strategies for clients ranging from Coca-Cola to fashion label Black coffee. He also facilitates atypical inspiration sessions that connect people, places and passions with incisive insight.

Orlando believes that design moves beyond logos, websites and beautiful objects. To him design is a creative problem-solving technique that can be applied to real world challenges – as Bruce Mau says, “It’s not about the world of design but about the design of the world.” To this end he owns and curates his own design gallery called Window [window.cycology.biz] stimulating dialogue around design thinking by showcasing local design talent, from Tonic furniture, to Luxury goods brand Quamta, to artist and designer Givan Lotz. Orlando is a gifted inspirational speaker and facilitator who is passionate about making profit and purpose meet.

He has first hand experience as social entrepreneur with his electric bicycle lifestyle brand Cycology [www.cycology.biz], and also founded an NGO called #Decongest [www.decongest.org.za] committed to getting you to try greener modes of transport. Building on his award-winning career in the creative and branding industries, Vincent’s new consultancy, Orlando, designs compelling experiences that move people and brands to interact and thrive.
